Love Your Landmarks Gets Some UWS Love in 2011

From February 1st on, Landmark West! is inviting anyone with a digital camera to join them in identifying favorite Upper West Side landmarks. The “Love Your Landmarks” project doesn’t necessarily restrict you to landmarked buildings… “Landmark” can mean different things to different people. It could might mean the Pioneer Supermarket (above right), an Upper West Side staple on Columbus between 73rd and 74th. Or it could be something more personal, like a favorite Central Park hangout, Bethesda Fountain (above left), your family’s favorite restaurant, the street corner where you pick up your newspaper every morning, your child’s playground or park, or even the elementary school you attended. So far, the project has attracted a slew of photo entries, with many getting posted on the Landmark West! blog. If you want to join in on identifying a favorite Upper West Side landmark, you can simply download and print the “I Heart this Landmark” sign, take a picture of yourself holding the sign in front of the landmark, and send it in to Landmark West!. In addition to getting your landmark on the blog, LW! will add your photos of Upper West Side buildings (that is, from West 59th to West 110th Street, Central Park to Riverside Park) to their online database, allowing your photograph to be part of the record of Upper West Side buildings. Check out the Love Your Landmarks 2011 page to see more details.
