Man Dies After Suffering Heart Attack In Hudson River During NYC Triathlon

Sad news coming out of today’s NYC Triathlon, which took place mostly on the Upper West Side. A 64-year-old man taking part in the competition suffered an apparent heart attack during the swim portion of the race in the Hudson River.
Another participant, a 40-year-old woman, experienced undisclosed health problems, also during the 1.5K swim (0.93 mi). Some reports say she was listed in critical condition, while others say she was treated on-site before being transferred to the hospital, implying less serious circumstances.
In addition to the swim, the triathlon consisted of a 40K (20 mi) bike ride and a 10K run, finishing at Tavern On The Green in Central Park.
This year’s winners were Ben Collins (men’s division, 1 hr 48 mins) and Rebecca Wassner (women’s division, just over 2 hours).
NY1 has the details, including video.
