Marathon Recap
A big congratulations to all who ran the 2009 ING NYC marathon yesterday! American Meb Keflezighi took the men’s title this year, and Ethiopian Derartu Tulu won the women’s race. The day offered nearly perfect weather for runners, leading to many of 43,000 who took part in the event calling the day a success. The race offered a unique opportunity for anyone who was interested to participate in a sport with athletes as well as celebrities. Stars such as Anthony Edwards and Edward Norton ran the race for charities, and many celebs from Maggie Gyllenhall to Judah Friedlander to Michael Bloomberg lined the course to cheer on participants. Post-race celebrations continued through the day at Tavern on the Green, and marathon-related activites are still going on now in Central Park. You can hit Tavern on the Green (Central Park West at 67th) today to pick up marathon gear and memorabilia at the “Marathon Monday Store,” or go to hear some discussions on post-race recovery. Were you inspired by the runners yesterday? Well, you are not alone if the 2010 marathon is already on your mind. The lottery for entry into the 2010 marathon starts today at noon; fill out an application here.
