Meet TV Legend Dick Cavett On Thursday During Upper West Side Discussion & Book Signing

Based on my unscientific estimates, my guess it that the average MyUpperWest reader is too young to be familiar with most of Dick Cavett’s work. Unfortunately, my two most vivid memories of him are from archival footage in Forrest Gump and Apollo 13. That said, the man is a TV legend. But you don’t have to take my word for it, you can take Woody Allen’s:
“There’s never been a talk show to equal Dick Cavett’s. His guest list was miraculous, the conversations dazzling…”
Best known for his talk-show that aired in the 1970s & 1980s, Cavett has been a television host, comedian and writer. He’s won three Emmy awards for his work.
He’ll be appearing on the Upper West Side this Thursday as part of the “Socrates In The City” series. Cavett will be interviewed by Eric Metaxas on “celebrity, fame, and other small topics.” Following the talk, Mr. Cavett will be signing copies of his latest book, Talk Show.
Unfortunately, this event got lost in the shuffle at MyUpperWest World Headquarters and has been sitting on my desk for a couple of weeks. Tonight is the last night for online registration, but tickets will still be available at the door on the day of the event. The discussion between Cavett & Metaxas kicks-off on Thursday at 7:00 pm at the New York Society For Ethical Culture (2 West 64th), with the book signing following, at around 8:30 pm. Tickets start at $55.
