Memorial Day Events on the Upper West Side
The Upper West Side has a couple of great events to celebrate Memorial Day, taking place tomorrow. First, Riverside Park is hosting a Memorial Day Observance tomorrow. Come to the Soldiers’ & Sailors’ Monument (Riverside Park at 89th) to honor the men and women of the United States Navy. Mayor Michael Bloomberg will be at the observance to give an address and lay a wreath, and the U.S. Navy Band will perform a concert at 10:00 am. The event is free and all are welcome.
Another Memorial Day event takes place at The Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine, at Amsterdam and 112th. Come to the church for a free New York Philharmonic concert. Alan Gilbert will conduct a program that includes Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man and Beethoven’s Egmont Overture. Seating is first come, first served, but the music will also be piped out onto the Pulpit Green, weather permitting.
