metro-theaterMetro Theater, the former movie theater on Broadway between 99th and 100th that has remained unoccupied since 2005, may be closer to transforming and coming back to life, according to the Columbia Spectator.  The space, which was rented out by a limited litigation company called 2626 Bway LLC, was cleared to find a new tenant last Monday when the old tenant was officially evicted, ending a year-and-a-half-long separation process.  “We intend to move very quickly now. We want to evaluate all the alternatives … and then make the best decision,” said Al Bialek, president of Seavest Management Corporation and the Metro Theater’s general partner.  Bialek went on further to say that the corporation will decide on a new occupant within a couple of weeks of the eviction, and that the space will likely serve as a major retail location, with options that include appliance and fashion apparel stores, a bookstore, a health club, and a school.  As for the proposal to convert Metro Theater into a community cultural center, Bialek squashes the idea, saying they have no intention of dealing with Michael Oliva, the community member who originated of the idea and has been raising funds to make it a reality.  Stay tuned to discover the fate of the iconic theater.
