According to the West Side Spirit, the owner of the now-closed Kosher Mediterranean eatery Nargila Grill (72nd between Broadway and West End) has gotten himself into some hot water. Yuval Aroety pled guilty on July 9th to stealing $310,751 in collected sales tax for his two restaurants (there is a sister Nargila Grill on the Upper East Side) over the past four and a half years. According to the DA, he also dodged city and corporate taxes on his restaurant, which closed shortly after a search warrant had been issued. Aroety could serve up to one year in jail if he does not pay a $60,000 criminal fine and $500,000 in owed taxes, along with interest and penalties, according to his plea agreement.
