Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

arborial-portraits-by-allison-greenCome to the salon-style gallery Susan Eley Fine Art, located in a townhouse at 90th between Central Park West and Columbus, for an opening reception of a beautiful series of arboreal portraits.  The exhibition, the first solo show of Allison Greenʼs work in New York City, features recent portraits of trees depicted alone or in pairs and groups.  Each painting is five feet tall (human size) and named after a woman in Green’s tight-knit extended family. The trunk reflects the tree’s uniqueness, with its knobs, marks and rings, and is the focus of the composition. The backgrounds are brightly rendered in surprising gemstone colors of crimson, pink, blue, and lavender, enhancing each subject’s individuality.  An fully-illustrated exhibition catalog, featuring an essay by noted critic Barbara Pollack, will also be available at the gallery, and an opening reception will take place at the gallery tomorrow evening to kick off the six-week-long exhibition.
