Opera-Goers are Getting Sprayed by Lincoln Center’s Fountain

Lincoln Center has debuted some of its multimillion dollar renovation project over the last few months, giving tourists and locals alike the chance to be critics. While many have commented on the aesthetics of the updates, from the new undulating Illumination Lawn to the renovated Columbus Avenue stairs, the functionality of the renovations was assumed to be just fine. However, some interesting complaints are coming from visitors to the campus… New York Magazine‘s Daily Intel blog reports that the four-story jets of water coming from the new Josie Robertson Plaza fountain are soaking passersby when gusts of wind occur. The fountain, designed/choreographed by WET Design (which also choreographed the spectacle at the Bellaggio in Las Vegas), has wind sensors which are supposed to keep the fountain from shooting up too high on windy days. However, a spokesperson for Lincoln Center said that new configurations have been tested recently in anticipation of spectacular shows during upcoming benefits and special events. While the testing phase occurs, we recommend bringing a raincoat and enjoy watching the people who live in our unattainable apartments getting soaked while all dressed up for the opera.
