Pair Of Weekend “Person vs. Car” Crashes On UWS Leave One Injured & One Dead; Police Searching For Hit & Run Driver

Monday, October 1st, 2012

A pair of “person vs. car” traffic accidents on the UWS over the weekend left a pizza delivery man seriously injured and a 75-year-old pedestrian dead.

The fatality is being treated as a hit-and-run and police are searching for a suspect.

The Daily News has limited details on the accident involving the delivery man (h/t to MUW reader Heidi).

The accident occurred at the intersection of Columbus & W. 104th. The victim appeared to be in serious condition — a witness said “only his fingers were moving” — and was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital.

There were no reports of criminality, as the driver of the car involved remained at the scene.

The more disturbing incident involves an elderly man who was struck at Broadway & 114th and left for dead.

DNAinfo and CBS-NY have the story.

Arnold Slater, 75, was hit by a black Honda Civic traveling north on Broadway as he crossed W. 114th just before midnight on Friday night.

Mr. Slater was found on the street in shock and died en route to the hospital.

Anyone with information or tips regarding the hit-and-run should contact Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-577-TIPS, texting TIP577 to CRIMES, or by going to NYPDCrimStoppers.com — all tips are confidential.
