Progress on Sheep Meadow’s Le Pain Quotidien

After Le Pain Quotidien won the bid to take over the space at the Mineral Springs café in Central Park’s Sheep Meadow, they announced that they planned to spend up to $1 million to renovate the casual dining spot in Central Park. As the summer approaches, construction crews are working hard on the renovations, which will result in an upscale bakery and restaurant that has communal seating for up to 80 indoors and outdoors. While it is unclear what the planned opening date of the café will be and whether or not they receive a liquor license to serve beer and wine (Community Board 5, the group that decides whether to issue a liquor license to the space, has not yet formally approved the license), photos taken this weekend indicate that they may open in the not-too-distant future. Above, construction trucks make their now-seemingly regular appearance at the café, located on the north end of the Sheep Meadow, mid-park near 69th. Below, construction crews take a lunch break from their work on the building.
