** UPDATE 11/23 ** Additional Details On Upper West Side Macy’s Parade Balloon Inflation

So I’m actually in Minneapolis at the moment. My brother lives here and we’re doing Thanksgiving in the cold this year.

Unfortunately, between traveling all day and family commitments, I’m a little short on time. I should have a more detailed post tomorrow, but in the interim I wanted to get out the basic details for the annual Macy’s Parade balloon inflation event that’s taking place on the Upper West Side tomorrow afternoon and evening.

For now, I’m just going to point you towards an article on About.com that provides the essential information. Per About:

The action starts around 4 pm on Thanksgiving Eve on 77th & 81st Streets between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue. Public viewing is from 3 pm until 8 pm. Regular attendees recommend arriving at about 5 pm when the balloons really start to take shape.

If at all possible, avoid all ground transportation in the West 70s and 80s tomorrow. Between street closures and thousands of people walking to and from the event, the streets of the Upper West Side will be a mess. Central Park West all the way to Broadway, from 86th to 72nd is sure to be gridlocked.
