Restaurant Week Profile: Compass

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

compass-restaurantIt’s the second week of Winter 2011 Restaurant Week, the event that lets you try meals from some of the best and fanciest restaurants in town for a prix fixe price of $24.07 (lunch) and $35 (dinner).  To honor the occasion, we will profile a participating Upper West Side restaurant each day and its Restaurant Week menu.  Today, we head to Compass, the New American restaurant on 70th near Amsterdam.

Compass is a comfortable yet sophisticated restaurant that has undergone more than one redesign, so if you haven’t stopped by recently, it’s a good time to come check out its current homey atmosphere and inventive cuisine.  This Restaurant Week, Compass is offering the $35 prix fixe dinner on Monday through Friday, as well as Sunday dinner.  The three-course prix fixe menu includes some of their fish-centric sensibilities, as well as options for those who aren’t seafood fans.  Appetizers include a Lobster Bisque with meyer lemon and nicoise olives and Chicken Galantine with romaine lettuce, anchovies, shaved reggiano parmesan, and garlic croutons.  For the main course, enjoy a selection that includes Brandade Crusted Hake with spinach, melted leeks, bouchon mussels, and fennel cream sauce and Braised Beef Brisket with five onion sauce, wild mushroom and potato gratin, and natural jus.  Finally, finish the meal by selecting a dessert from a choice between the Chocolate Mousse with chestnut rum ice cream and the Key Lime Parfait with graham crumble.  Come see why Forbes magazine declared Compass “chic, comfortable, and impressive” and gave the food a “consistently delicious” rave.  Make reservations at Compass by calling 212.875.8600 or by visiting Open Table’s reservation website.
