Restaurant Week Profile: Picholine
It’s the second week of Winter 2011 Restaurant Week, the event that lets you try meals from some of the best and fanciest restaurants in town for a prix fixe price of $24.07 (lunch) and $35 (dinner). To honor the occasion, we will profile a participating Upper West Side restaurant each day and its Restaurant Week menu. Today, we head to Picholine, the fine dining spot on 64th between Broadway and Central Park West.
If you are really in the mood for a fancy-schmancy meal at a good price, Picholine is the spot to try. This Michelin-starred French restaurant tucked away on an Upper West Side side street makes food feel like an art form. This time around, Picholine offers a three-course prix fixe menu for lunch on Monday through Friday. The appetizer selection includes Kambocha Squash Soup with wild mushrooms, chestnut, and bacon-maple mousse as well as a taste of their cheese with Sheep’s Milk Ricotta Gnocchi with artichokes barigoule, bottarga, and parsley pistou. For the main course, there is a beef cheek dish along with a Skate Wing “Pastrami” with cabbage rouge and mustard fondue and a Wild Mushroom Risotto with butternut squash. End the meal with a dessert with options that include a Warm Caramel Brioche with cranberry sorbet and textures and a Chocolate-Hazelnut Marquise with coffee and cinnamon salt. Try out Picholine, the restaurant that many review as a “winner” of the Upper West Side, by reserving your table at Open Table or calling 212.724.8585.
