Shoplifting Mom/Tween Combo Caught

The mother and son who were caught on tape earlier this year in the midst of an Upper West Side theft and shoplifting spree were caught, according to The New York Post. Carolyn Taylor, 35, and her 11-year-old son Enrique Tate, both of East 180th Street in East Tremont, were chased down by cops on the Upper West Side at 8:10 pm Sunday. Back in January, the mother and son went to The Gap on Broadway and 67th, where the boy allegedly swiped a wallet from an unattended stroller. The pair went on to the Always Love pharmacy near 72nd and Broadway, getting caught on a surveillance tape shoving items into Taylor’s bag while the store clerk was turned around, swiping the stolen credit card. The boy can be seen on the tape following the woman’s orders to grab items and put them in her bag. They later went to the GameStop on 84th and Broadway and used the stolen card to purchase more items. On Sunday, they returned to the same Gap, where a Lincoln Square Business Improvement District worker thought they looked suspicious and called cops. Responding officers busted the mother and son after a short foot chase, according to The Post‘s source. Each was charged with one count of fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony punishable by up to four years in prison. Enrique was released into the care of an unidentified adult, and his case will be referred to Family Court. Taylor, who has a whopping six priors for larceny and possession of stolen property dating to 2004, was arraigned last night, where her bail was set at $7,500 bond or $5,000 cash, and they set her to be due back in court on Friday.
