Starting Tonight: The Bacchae at Shakespeare in the Park

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

twelfthnight Shakespeare in the Park’s wonderful series of free shows continues tonight with the debut performance of The Bacchae.  Yes, yes, we know what you’re thinking… and last we checked, The Bacchae is still the one by Euripides, not Shakespeare.  But what better way to see a Greek tragedy than in open air?  The play has been given an update, with a fresh look from director Joanne Akalaitis and an avant-garde score by Philip Glass.  The free tickets can be picked up at 1:00 pm on the day of the performance at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park (it is recommended you arrive much earlier than 1:00 to get tickets as they go fast).   Alternatively, you can get free tickets at locations throughout the five boroughs starting at 1:00 pm on the day of the show, you could try waiting in the virtual line, or you can purchase “Summer Supporter” reserved tickets for $170 each.  Ticketing information can be found here.
