Store Closings on Columbus

It’s always tough to see stores and restaurants become vacant holes in our beloved neighborhood, but in this economy, it seems to be happening more than ever.  One of the latest closings include the Danskin (left) on Columbus Ave between 67th and 68th, which is currently closed due to nonpayment of rent.   Strange to walk by and still see the clothes in the store… another closing is the Elite Cafe & Restaurant (right) up Columbus between 68th and 69th.   It was a small casual diner-type spot that apparently had some issues with the IRS (the sign claiming the store had been seized due to nonpayment of taxes was removed a couple of days ago).  Here’s to hoping that these establishments either recover or are replaced by other good businesses to keep our area thriving…
