SUNDAY MORNING: Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony For New UWS Obama Campaign Office

Saturday, September 22nd, 2012

Posted on Thursday that a new campaign office for President Obama is opening on the Upper West Side.

The official ribbon-cutting ceremony (can’t have something political without a ribbon-cutting) is on Sunday morning and a variety of local officials will be on hand.

The office is located at 410 Columbus (between 79th & 80th) and the ceremony takes place at 11:00 am.

Here are the details from a press release I received:

Rep. Jerry Nadler, Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer and Assemblymember Linda B. Rosenthal will cut the ribbon for the storefront. It will serve as the neighborhood hub for volunteers working to re-elect President Obama and to win back a Democratic majority in the House of Representatives, by focusing, for example, on races like Mark Murphy’s campaign to unseat Rep. Michael Grimm in Brooklyn and Staten Island.

The headquarters, a joint effort of two political clubs, Community Free Democrats and Ansonia Independent Democrats, expects to triple the number of volunteers who came forward to staff Community Free Democrats’ storefront in 2008.

“Re-electing President Obama is even more important than it was in 2008, because the stakes are even higher,” said CFD president Timothy Foley.  ”The key location of our campaign headquarters will be a great asset in this effort.”

If you’re interested in volunteering for the campaign, you can sign up at cfdnyc.org. That’s the website for Community Free Democrats, an UWS organization that’s been around for more than 40 years.

The office will be running phonebanks Mondays through Thursdays from 6:00 – 9:00 pm, and Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 – 4:00 pm. Those hours will expand as Election Day approaches.
