Threatening Letter Sent to UWS Synagogue

ozny-synagogueThe New York Post reports that a threatening letter was sent to an Upper West Side synagogue last week, warning of a bomb that was to detonate in the building on New Year’s Eve.  The note, which was found in the Congregation Ohab Zedek synagogue (95th near Columbus) on Thursday around 5:00 pm, included a New Year’s Eve bomb threat, according to Rabbi Allen Schwartz.  Rabbi Schwartz added that the letter had been sent to as many as 12 other synagogues, and that there is reason to believe that “someone wants to spread fear.”  He declined to elaborate further as the police investigation is underway to determine the source of the bomb threats.  While the synagogue was evacuated after the threat so that police could do a sweep for bombs, no harm was done on New Year’s Eve as the letter had promised.
