Today’s Events at the American Museum of Natural History
Come to the American Museum of Natural History (Central Park West at 79th) tonight for some great events. First, join the museum for a celebration of Richard Ellis’s new book, On Thin Ice: The Changing World of the Polar Bear. Explore the history of human and polar bear interaction, from the 17th-century Dutch and British whalers who first encountered them to their current status as a symbol of the destructive effects of global warming. The program includes a wine reception after the lecture, and a raffle for a free copy of the book.
If you prefer a fascinating discussion on the biology behind holiday madness, come instead to tonight’s SciCafe. The free event provides music, drinks and stimulating conversation after-hours in the museum, featuring cutting-edge science and cultural connections. This month’s SciCafe uncovers the evolutionary and cultural roots of greed and altruism and compares these seemingly human behaviors to those of other species. Take part in a lively conversation with biologist Lee Dugatkin, University of Louisville, and Rob DeSalle, Curator of Invertebrate Zoology at AMNH, as they get to the root of what makes us naughty or nice.
