One of the events of the year in the city takes place tomorrow, the 2009, ING New York City Marathon.  The 26.2-mile race starts in Staten Island and makes its way through all five boroughs before wrapping up in Central Park on the jogger’s path near Tavern on the Green (67th).  If you are interested in watching the runners, many spots along the route will offer good viewing areas, and the finish line provides reserved seating in bleachers at $75 per person.  Details on how to spectate and cheer on the runners can be found here.  Outside of the race itself, a flurry of events to honor the runners and celebrate, offering you many ways to participate.  Tonight at Tavern on the Green is a Barilla Marathon Eve Dinner, where runners and their supporters can prepare for the race by filling up on carbs in the form of tasty pasta dishes.  Also tonight at the finish line in the park is a marathon fireworks show, open to the public.  Breakfast and entertainment is provided for runners at the start line tomorrow, and marathon fans can watch the race on NBC from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.  Finally, the finish line will be chalk full of celebrating, with entertainment, support, music, and a finish line banquet at Tavern on the Green.  A full schedule of events is on the marathon website, and a great introduction to the marathon’s ties to Central Park, including spectator tips and information on how to track your favorite runners on the course, can be found on the Central Park Blogger.
