Trader Joe’s Issues Food Recall (But I Still Swear By Their Lamb Vindaloo & Chicken Tikka Masala)

Tuesday, December 11th, 2012

A quick safety note if you’ve got any Trader Joe’s Butter Chicken with Basmati Rice sitting in your freezer:

DON’T EAT IT.

The grocery chain recently issued a recall on the product because it may be contaminated with Listeria.

I happened upon this article on Yahoo’s front page yesterday that has the details.

Additional details are available at TraderJoes.com:

I haven’t tried TJ’s Butter Chicken, but their Lamb Vindaloo and Chicken Tikka Masala get two thumbs up from me.

Generally speaking, I’m not a fan of frozen food. However, I’ve found these two “dishes” compare favorably with several delivery options near me. They’re only $3.99 each, they heat up in less than five minutes, and, I swear, they taste pretty good (and don’t have a lot of of unpronounceable ingredients).

I think they’re both a shockingly decent lazy alternative when you want to eat in a hurry.

Apparently I’m not alone — you can check out what the folks at WhatsGoodAtTraderJoes.com think:

They give the Tikka Masala a 9.5/10. The Vindaloo comes in at 7.5/10, but that seems to be based on the fact they think the portion is on the small side.

Anyone else try either of these? I’m an unabashed fan.
