The verdict in the case of the frozen Pad Thai slapping incident at Trader Joe’s is in. According to the New York Times: “The legal protection of self-defense, it seems, has been extended to noodle-related strife.”

Judge ShawnDya Simpson of Manhattan Criminal Court found defendant Marcella Caprario not guilty of both attempted assault and harassment yesterday. Caprario, who had waived her right to a trial by jury, was facing 90 days in jail.

If you’re interested in meeting the combatants, yesterday’s Daily News had a link to a brief ABC News video detailing the case. Apparently the recipient of the slap, Dr Cathleen London, is my neighbor. I saw them filming this on Tuesday next door to my apartment, in front of what I presume to be her building. I’ve seen TV interviews being filmed before, but I never cease to be amazed by how close the interviewer stands to the interviewee. It might not look like it in the video, but they were awkwardly close — probably the same distance that precipitated the slap.
