Whole Foods Columbus Square (Columbus near 97th) has some great free happenings this week… first, stop by the growler station tonight for a free beer tasting.  Shmaltz Brewing Company will be giving out samples of five of their beers while you receive $1 off 64 oz. growler fills for Thursday Happy Hour.  Also happening tonight is a Small Budget, Big Flavor tour and tasting.  Learn the secrets behind shopping on a budget aisle by aisle, with a focus on vegetarian value tonight.  Then enjoy a spicy bean chili cooking demo and tasting.  Tomorrow, enjoy another Friday of music with the Jazz Legend Winter Series featuring Sweet Georgia Brown and The Blues Crusaders.  On Saturday, a multi-country Whole Foods event takes place: Celebrate Parmigiano Reggiano.  Whole Foods Market’s cheese mongers in the U.S., Canada and the U.K. will demonstrate the traditional method of breaking into 24-month-aged wheels of Parmigiano Reggiano using official tools (five different knives).  The process of carving into and portioning each 85-pound wheel requires an expert hand and is usually done in about half an hour.   In 2008, Whole Foods got a Guinness World Records for “Most Parmigiano Reggiano Wheels Cracked Simultaneously,” with nearly 300 wheels opened at 176 stores, and this year, they hope to break that record.  Of course, don’t forget about the other regular Whole Foods event… the free wine tastings on Fridays and Saturdays.  Many opportunities to enjoy some Whole Foods offerings for free!
