UPDATE: $25 Discount On Tickets To Fantastic UWS Fundraiser On Sunday Featuring Legendary Composer/Musician Alan Menken

Friday, March 2nd, 2012

Posted the other day about a fantastic Upper West Side fundraiser taking place on Sunday evening (March 4th).

The event features legendary composer/musician Alan Menken, winner of eight Academy Awards (19 nominations!), seven Golden Globes, and 11 Grammy’s (just to name some of his accolades).

In addition to a concert by Mr. Menken, there will be a cocktail reception with hors d’oeuvres and a live auction with a variety of great items up for bid. Proceeds from the evening will benefit PS 84/The Lillian Weber School For The Arts, which is located on the Upper West Side.

If you were thinking of going, here’s something that might entice you: You can use the promo code MYUPPERWEST to get $25 off the price of tickets.

Below is the original post with all the details and a link to purchase tickets:

You may not recognize the face of the man pictured above, but you’re almost certainly familiar with his work.

He’s famed composer and musician Alan Menken — winner of eight Academy Awards (19 nominations!), seven Golden Globes, 11 Grammy’s, and three Tony nominations (how did he not win one of those too??).

On Sunday, March 4th, he’s performing an intimate concert at the Upper West Side’s New-York Historical Society (170 CPW) that will benefit PS 84/The Lillian Weber School For The Arts (32 W. 92nd).

Mr. Menken’s amazing portfolio of work includes film scores and songs for The Little Mermaid, Beauty & The Beast, Newsies, Aladdin, Little Shop Of Horrors, The Hunchback Of Notre Dame, Pocahontas, Home On The Range, Captain America: The First Avenger, and the upcoming Mirror, Mirror.

His eight Oscars and 19 nominations are more than anyone else alive — and you thought Meryl Streep’s mere 17 nominations were impressive!

Menken’s theater work includes music for many of the stage versions of the films listed above (including Little Shop Of Horrors, Beauty & The Beast, The Little Mermaid, and the upcoming productions of Newsies and Leap Of Faith) as well as A Christmas Carol, and Sister Act: The Musical.

This just BEGINS to scratch the surface of Mr. Menken’s success — he’s literally The Man.

On Sunday, you’ll have the opportunity to hear him perform and meet him in person, all while raising money for a good, local cause.

Mr. Menken’s connection to the school is through his long-time music director, Michael Kosarin, a P.S. 84 parent (and MUW reader!).

Details and tickets are available at ps84pta.eventbrite.com:

  • $95 $70 with MYUPPERWEST promo code ($55 tax-deductible): Orchestra seats, including a cocktail reception with hors d’oeuvres.
    .
  • $250 $225 with MYUPPERWEST promo code ($210 tax-deductible): A “Meet & Greet”/center-orchestra seat package that adds a post-performance meeting with Mr. Menken.

In addition to the reception and performance, there will also be a live auction. One cool item up for bid is a private tour of the 30 Rock set by actress Jane Krakowski.

The evening kicks off at 7:00 pm and has all the makings of a fabulous event.
