My Upper West Pet of the Day: Mason

mason-petofthedayIt’s My Upper West Pet Week!  Each day this week, we will spotlight an awesome Upper West Side pet, giving them a little local fame.  Today’s pet is Mason, an 11-month-old pooch who resides in the West 80′s.  Mason is a “Cavachon,” half Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, half Bichon Frise, who clearly has a face that brings him popularity in his neighborhood.  In fact, owner Yasmin says,

He is, without a doubt, the most popular dog on the block.  People I’ve never seen before will come up to us and say, ‘this must be Mason!  I’ve heard so much about him.’  We can’t go for a walk without being stopped 10 times by people asking to pet him.  He is a very friendly, cheerful dog, and his tail never stops wagging.  A few months ago, he was attacked by an angry, old, aggressive dog (he got a bloody nose and went to the hospital!).  We were afraid it would change his demeanor, but the VERY next day he was approaching dogs 10 times his size in the street to play and sniff butts (lets be honest here, thats what they do). I think that makes him a quintessential New Yorker- gets beat down one day but wakes up ready to conquer the world on the next.

You can spot Mason hanging on his block in the West 80′s or at one of his two favorite UWS spots, the grass divider in Riverside Park near the 87th Street dog run or Fred’s (Amsterdam between 82nd and 83rd) for Sunday brunch, where he sits with his owners and enjoys his ice-cold bowl of water.
