My Upper West Pick of the Month: Recipe
Each month, My Upper West chooses an Upper West Side business as Pick of the Month. These businesses are part of what makes our neighborhood great, and we highly recommend checking them out if you haven’t yet had the chance. This month’s pick is Recipe, the new American restaurant on Amsterdam between 81st and 82nd. Click through to read more about Recipe.
You will need to look carefully on the block for the tiny storefront, but as you walk into the space, you won’t feel cramped in the intimate, 26-seat restaurant. The feel of Recipe upon entering is “rustic-chic,” as one Yelper describes it, with wooden benches, exposed brick, and warm lighting welcoming you. While reservations are accepted for dinner only, getting a table for lunch or brunch is relatively painless, as you can stop by, put your name down for a table, and then go shopping in the neighborhood, as the host will call your cell phone when your table is ready.
The food and service match the decor in creativity and warmth. The cuisine, featuring fresh and local ingredients hand-picked by the chefs, includes seasonal, “casually rustic” dishes, from the Seared Hudson Valley Duck Breast to the Tomato & Mozzarella Tart with basil pesto and black truffle oil. The interesting and unique dishes are still accessible in flavor, and even better, relatively easy on the wallet. Brunch entrees are in the $9-$14 range, lunch is offered as prix fixe with one appetizer and one entree for $9.95-$11.95, and dinner entrees are in the $17-$24 range. Service is friendly, with Yelpers declaring the staff “friendly,” “helpful,” and “chill.”
Next time you are looking for a tasty meal and enjoyable experience to go along with it, keep Recipe in mind. Check out their website for a full menu or to make reservations.
