Upper West Side Closings: Patagonia Tin Shed, Verizon Wireless, The Abbey Pub, Broadway Gourmet Deli

Tuesday, March 13th, 2012

So long, Patagonia Tin Shed — we hardly knew ya!

MUW reader Anthony reports the store that opened in November at 2625 Broadway (near 100th) is set to close on March 26th.

When it opened, the Tin Shed was described as a “concept store.” It’s unclear if the concept simply didn’t work, or if the store was always intended to be a short-term opening. Judging by the signage, I’d guess the latter, but I don’t know for sure.

Either way, there’s about to be some vacant space at 2625 Broadway.

The “regular” Patagonia at 426 Columbus (between 80th & 81st) is unaffected and will remain open.

Elsewhere…

MUW reader David reports the Verizon Wireless store at 100 W. 96th has closed. No word if this is related in any way to the VZW store at 2268 Broadway relocating to the former H&H Bagels space.

If you missed the post earlier, The Abbey Pub (237 W. 105th) was shuttered by the Department of Health.

As a reminder, today is Day 2 of the MTA’s FASTRACK maintenance service on the A/C (and E) subway lines. Between 10:00 pm and 5:00 am, multiple stations will be closed, affecting transit to and from the Upper West Side.

Finally, frequent tipster Jim reports that Broadway Gourmet Deli (2675 Broadway, between 101st & 102nd) recently closed.

This is right near the stretch of Broadway featured last month that had lots of opening/closing action going on. In fact, Jim sent in this note about the area last month as part of an update on the Mama Mexico closing:

That makes three empty storefronts on that block. Four if you count the store that Mama took over when they expanded. This is one block north of the recently departed check cashing store, which happens to be across the street from the long empty stores on the Metro Diner side of the street.  All of the above is one block north of the empty Metro Theater and the empty Extel building storefront. Yikes!

Speaking of Mama Mexico, there’s been some movement there and I’ll have an update tomorrow or Thursday.

Jim include this rather sad looking photograph of the now vacant BGD:
