Saturday morning round-up of recent Upper West Side crime-related news:

  • The Post reports David McKie was recently sentenced to 15 years in prison for vehicular manslaughter after killing 39-year-old Karen Schmeer in January 2010. McKie struck Schmeer as she was crossing Broadway at West 90th. At the time of the accident, McKie was “trying to outrace cops after shoplifting a stash of cold medicines from a CVS at 86th and Amsterdam with a pair of buddies.” Schmeer was an award-winning film editor.
    .
  • DNAinfo has the story of a fashionable thief who stole four Marc Jacobs handbags from the Barney’s Co-Op store on Broadway near 76th. The thief distracted a store clerk with a request for shoes and then snatched $1,652 worth of designer bags before fleeing to a getaway car parked outside the store.
    .
  • DNAinfo also chronicles the case of a sweet-toothed bandit. Apparently someone made off with $79 worth of Entenmann’s baked goods from a delivery truck parked on Amsterdam near 70th. Mmmm… Entenmann’s. (Wasn’t me)
