What’s with Upper West Side pets falling from the sky?
In June, a cat fell 12-stories and lived to meow the tale. Less than a month later, another cat fell 20 (twenty!) stories and survived, while a third cat survived a fall of inderterminate distance after being dropped by a hawk that picked him up off the roof of a brownstone.
Now comes word of Kai, a 2-year-old Shiba Inu that somehow managed to survive a 4-story drop from a West End Avenue rooftop.
What’s interesting is that when the panicked owner’s friend dialed 911, she was told that animal-related issues are dealt with by calling 311. After hanging up and calling 311, that operator told her to call 911. Finally, another call to 911 brought help, but not without fudging the details a bit. Per The Post:
On the third try, she told 911 to come help the three adults who were now sitting on the dangerous ledge and needed help. “I thought, ‘He’s dying on the ledge and no one will help and we’re wasting time,” said Aron [the dog's owner]. “I’ve never felt so guilty about anything in my life.”
While he can’t see out of one eye and is on steroids to reduce swelling, Kai miraculously suffered no broken bones in the fall.
Gives new meaning to the phrase “lucky dog.”
