Seems like Vai’s goodbye didn’t last very long. The restaurant/wine bar closed up shop on West 77th last month, forced out by the impending condo construction. However, it looks as though their exit from the neighborhood was only temporary, as tipster Matt sent in this photo showing that they’re coming back. It appears that they’re re-opening in the space that was home to the recently closed Taberna, on Amsterdam between 80th & 81st. Vai’s website confirms their return to the Upper West Side is imminent, saying “We are signing a new lease on Amsterdam Avenue. We’ll update you when the new place opens.”
An update on the recently opened Saravana Bhavan vegetarian Indian restaurant, one block south on Amsterdam, between 79th & 80th — EaterNY noted today that “On top of their menu with plenty of dosas and other Indian specialties, they’re doing Indian-style brunch and have a cocktail list named for Indian rugby teams.
