homegoods

amNewYork has a quick story on HomeGoods, “the discount design mecca.” Their first NYC store is opening on the Upper West Side (795 Columbus @ 99th) today.

I was actually invited to some sort of preview event last week, but I wasn’t able to make it. Because of that, I’ll have to defer to the amNewYork story for the details:

If you’re not familiar with the store, it’s like a T.J.Maxx or Marshalls for home items – in fact, all three are owned by the same company. That means scores of tabletop items, glassware, rugs, lamps, bedding, kitchen and bathroom decor, small furniture pieces, kids’ items and pet goodies are available at discounted prices.

The story is pretty massive — 20,000 SF on two levels. Should be a nice addition to the neighborhood for those looking to shop on a budget. Personally, I’m still partial to IKEA, despite being way too old for it.
