Highly anticipated neighborhood addition Island Burgers & Shakes is on the verge of opening their new Upper West Side location at 422 Amsterdam, between 80th & 81st.

First mentioned back in May, Island Burgers has developed a sort of cultish following at their Hell’s Kitchen location — people on Yelp mostly love the place; NY Mag lists it as a critic’s pick. If you Google it you’ll find almost unanimously rave reviews.

The new UWS outpost should provide a nice burger alternative to Shake Shack, Five Napkin, Big Nick’s, Five Guys and other neighborhood joints.

They’re opening for dinner stating Wednesday 9/7, with lunch service beginning the following Thursday, 9/15. Looks like they’re going to be serving ’til midnight… given that I live about two blocks away, there’s no way this ends well.

Here’s another shot of the interior. It’s VERY narrow, but looks nice.
