Upper West Side Opening: Yogurtland

Wednesday, January 22nd, 2014

Wrote last week that the Upper West Side had lost two frozen yogurt shops with the closings of Frozen Peaks (2541 Broadway) and Yapple (2056 Broadway).

Now comes word that a new froyo spot is stepping in to pick up the slack:

Yogurtland is opening their fourth NYC location — and second on the UWS — tomorrow, Thursday, 1/23.

The new store is located at 795 Columbus and is part of the Columbus Square development.

Yogurtland’s offerings are of the self-serve variety and their menu features over 100 rotating flavors (16 available at any given time) and 60 topping choices, including seasonal fruit.

The seem to pride themselves on using natural ingredients, and their product is prepared in a kosher certified facility and is gluten free (with the exception of flavors that contain cookies).

The neighborhood’s other Yogurtland opened at 420 Amsterdam (corner of 80th) last year and gets a healthy 4 1/2 stars on Yelp.

I stopped by there a few months ago and thought it was pretty tasty, with a bunch of flavors on tap that I haven’t seen elsewhere.

I’m not sure if the experience is dramatically different from any of the other numerous UWS froyo options, but it should be a nice addition to the Columbus Square area for froyo lovers.

They also have a cold-weather special going that the colder the weather, the bigger the discount you get on your yogurt.

Thanks. I’m waiting to get more details on it from their PR people. Do you know if it’s just for today?

No idea. I saw the sign in their window yesterday, but my face was freezing so I didn’t get a good look.
