Upper West Side Openings

After Mai Salon closed on Amsterdam between 79th and 80th, neighbors became curious about what might fill the vacant space. Now we know… Insomnia Cookies, a genius idea of a store that started near NYU and delivers cookies to dorms, will open a location in the space. While it is a little bit of a hike to Columbia, it may still be close enough to satisfy college students with the munchies. Thanks to Ross L. for the photo and Tiffany S. for the tip. Another opening on Amsterdam is Grand Sichuan. The Chinese restaurant chain plans to open in the former Shark Bar location on Amsterdam between 74th and 75th, according to signage. Thanks to Neil M. for the tip and photo.
Finally, Eater NY reports that the former restaurant Monsoon on 81st and Amsterdam will reopen as the Thai food chain Spice. Time will tell whether Thai cuisine will fare better than the former Vietnamese grub in the space.
