Upper West Side Openings
Columbus Square took another step towards completion recently when two more spots opened their doors. The Modell’s Sporting Goods store on the east side of Columbus between 97th and 100th opened last week with little fanfare. A lack of noise made about the grand opening, along with the scaffolding covering the storefront that makes it difficult to enter the store (or even know whether it is open, for that matter), has made the Modell’s opening a quiet one. Along with the sporting goods store, the Mandell School opened in the area last week. Up next for Columbus Square? A Borders bookstore, Chase bank, and a second private school, the Solomon Schechter School, all slated to open this fall. Thanks to My Upper West tipsters Taylor R. and Mark S. for the tips and photos.
