Upper West Side Openings

Friday, March 12th, 2010

bomboliniIs it actually here?  After months of zen-like patience for the filled fried doughnut to be offered by an eatery of the same name as the treat, Bombolini promises to open today or tomorrow.  The shop, located on Columbus between 68th and 69th, has led us on before, with many a grand opening date, but this one looks serious, since the plywood shell is down, the awning is up, and buzz everywhere is that the store is ready (West Side Independent even heard through the grapevine that they will give free bombolinis out to celebrate the opening).

One opening that we are sure about is Vareli.  Chef Amitzur Mor of Gramercy Tavern and Bouley heads up a new Mediterranean-inspired menu through uptown grocery Westside Market at the new restaurant, which opened on Monday at 2869 Broadway, between 111th and 112th.  The candlelit bi-level space also serves up an eclectic list of over 100 international wines.
