Mani/pedi lovers who feel uneasy about the cleanliness of salons throughout the city can breathe a little easier with a new UWS salon, Polished Beauty Bar.  The salon, which is now open on 78th between Broadway and West End Avenue, is a stickler for being “clean and green.”  They autoclave the tools, using them once before they’re soaked in hospital-grade sanitizer solution, sealed in a sanitizer bag and subjected to high pressure saturated steam, the salon was awarded a Certificate of Healthy Air by the EnpuTech Air Cleaning Technology system, pedicure stations feature a spa jet foot bath which radiates LED light to eliminate unwanted germs and bacteria, all while clients’ shoes are treated to The Klenz Sanitizer, a Korean import, to rid them of odor-causing bacteria.  In addition, participants in Avon’s Walk for Breast Cancer on October 16th and 17th, will get a discounted pedi service,
redeemable at any time following the Walk through December 31, 2010.

Another opening in the neighborhood is a new restaurant named Tolani.  The restaurant, on Amsterdam near 80th, will serve “global comfort food” from David Rotter and consulting chef Craig Hopson, executive chef at Le Cirque, and is slated to open on Thursday, October 14th, according to ZagatBuzz.  Owner Stanton du Toit (who also owns Sojourn on the Upper East Side) is reportedly finishing up the restaurant, which will include two levels, an outdoor garden, a basement “secret garden,” and a menu with a focus on plates for sharing.

Another restaurant in transition has been getting some attention lately.  Fish Tag, Michael Psilakis’ new venture in the same space as his now-closed Gus and Gabriel Gastropub (79th between Broadway and Amsterdam), is under construction, and is getting close to being ready, reports Eater NY.  The seafood restaurant will include a 30-seat raw bar, a long chef’s style table where appetizers will be prepared in front of guests, and chef Ryan Skeen (consultant at Sweetiepie and executive chef at 5 & Diamond), and is slated to open in two to three weeks.

Finally, in closing news, a tipster reports that there is a “store for rent” sign in BOC Boutique on Columbus at 84th.  The boutique was once an option for Upper West Siders to get designer clothing from designers like Vivienne Westwood and Alexander Wang.
