Upper West Side Openings & Closings: Cosi, Unnamed Michael Lomonaco Wine Bar, Duane Reade, Westside Market
UPDATE 10/5/12: Almost a year-and-a-half later, Chef Lomonaco’s new wine bar — Center Bar — is finally ready to open.
GrubStreet is reporting that Chef Michael Lomonaco is planning to open a wine bar this October at the Time Warner Center, in the open atrium space adjacent to his Porter House restaurant. Per GrubStreet: “The new place, tentatively titled Center Bar, will serve small plates like ceviche and caviar with corn blinis, along with wine, Champagne, and cocktails.”
In closing news, tipster Craig wrote in to say the Cosi on Broadway, between 77th & 78th, officially closed today. This is the block that’s the future home of a new condo developement — Cosi was one of the last stores still in business. Craig reports they were supposed to close at 3 pm, but UWS photographer @Glark tweeted at 2:14 today that they shut down just as he was trying to buy lunch. I guess they threw in the towel early.
In other closing news, Elizabeth reports that the Duane Reade on Broadway, between 97th & 98th, has recently closed. I have no doubt another will pop up somewhere in the neighborhood to take its place.
