Upper West Side Openings & Closings: Cascabel Taqueria, Cosi, New Town Pizza, P & G Bar, Susie’s Nail Salon

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

Dara sent in the photo above showing the imminent arrival of Cascabel Taqueria. It’s located on Broadway & 108th, in the former Lime Leaf space. Cascabel Taqueria was first mentioned on MyUpperWest in March, when DNAinfo had a post on the UES taqueria opening an UWS location. At the time they were shooting for an April or May opening. No word yet on an exact date, but from the outside, it looks like they’re close to being ready.

In closing news, the block of Broadway between 77th & 78th has suffered another casualty. After Cosi closed its doors yesterday, Carol reports that New Town Pizza is now also closed. Tipster Tovah had tweeted that they were closing Wednesday, but either they’re having strange pre-closure hours or decided to shut down ahead of schedule. Either way, today or tomorrow, they’re finished.

On a bright note concerning the businesses on that block that were forced to close, Carol also reports that Susie’s Nail Salon has reopened elsewhere in the neighborhood. Located on the now desolate stretch of Broadway for 25 years before being forced to close in March, Susie’s can now be found at 252 West 72nd, on the 2nd floor. They’re going through some construction now, but they’re open for business.

Finally, P & G Bar, a fixture on the Upper West Side for almost 70 years, is closing at the end of May — DNAinfo has has the details. After 66 years at Amsterdam & 73rd, they moved to Columbus & 78th in 2009. Supposedly a new business is opening up June 1st, but there’s no news on specifics yet.
