If you missed it, the big closing news yesterday was that Borders is shuttering all its stores, including the Upper West Side location in the Time Warner Center. Today, DNAinfo posted some additional information: There’s no word yet on when the UWS location will close, but Borders will start liquidating assets on Friday, and a store employee told @ReporterLeslie that customers will start seeing discounts on merchandise then.

The store will remain in business until the “warehouse is empty,” the employee said. Borders expects to have all stores closed by September — whether the UWS location will make it until then remains to be seen.

Elsewhere in the neighborhood, Cuban joint Cafe Con Leche has closed their location at 726 Amsterdam, between 95th & 96th, and WSR reports that a French take-out place will move into the space. Their location at 424 Amsterdam (between 80th & 81st) remains open, which means I can still enjoy my occasional Cuban sandwich and maduros there.

Reader Stephanie sent in a photo update of the Eastern Mountain Sports store coming to the new Laureate condo at Broadway & 76th. They’ve started hiring for the new location and it seems as though they’re still on target for a fall opening.
