Upper West Side Openings & Closings: Emerald Inn, Banana Republic

Sunday, June 9th, 2013

Wrote last month that the historic UWS Emerald Inn was getting close to opening at their new location (250 W. 72nd, between West End & Broadway).

Thanks to MUW reader Hope, who reports the “new” Emerald is now officially open.

Hope, who had a drink there last night, described the space as “friendly and cute.”

If you missed the earlier posts back in February, the Emerald was forced to relocate from 205 Columbus after 70 years at that location to make room for a Kate Spade store.

The Emerald is a third-generation family business that’s been on the Upper West Side since 1943 (see 2/12/13 post for more history). If you’re looking for a low-key drink in the neighborhood, stop by and support their reincarnation on West 72nd Street.

If you were a regular at the 205 Columbus location and have any thoughts on how the new space compares, please drop me a line.

Elsewhere…

MUW reader Kevin reports that the Banana Republic at 2360 Broadway (corner of 86th) is now officially closed.

As mentioned previously, the store is relocating across the street to a larger space at 2373 Broadway.

Per Kevin’s photo below, the new space is slated to open on Wednesday morning:
