Upper West Side Openings & Closings: Good Enough To Eat, Juice Press

Thursday, June 13th, 2013

Wrote last month that Good Enough To Eat — an Upper West Side fixture for 30+ years — was relocating from 483 Amsterdam to 520 Columbus (at 85th).

GETE officially closed shop on Amsterdam yesterday and had their grand opening on Columbus earlier tonight.

Thanks to MUW reader Kevin for the photos — as you can see in the one below, the familiar white picket fence has made its way over to the restaurant’s new home.

Breakfast service at the new space starts at 8:00 am on Friday morning.

Nice to see that GETE to eat was able to find a new home in the neighborhood. As mentioned back in December 2011, the restaurant has a long history on the Upper West Side.

Recently mentioned that women’s lingerie store Brief Encounters closed at 239 Columbus (corner of 71st) after 18 years.

Looks the space is slated to become a Juice Press.

The Post reports that the landlord was offering the 400 square foot space for $13,000/month, “but it turned into ‘a real bidding war’ that ended in the space going for $15,000.”

No word yet on an opening date, but this will be the second UWS outpost for Juice Press — their first neighborhood store opened at 73 W. 82nd last month.

Juice Press is a growing mini-chain of retail stores that sells 100% raw juices, superfood smoothies, raw foods, and desserts — New York Yankees’ first basemen Mark Teixeira is an investor in the company.

There’s a ton of information on juicepress.com about their offerings, as well as a slew of press coverage.

There was word back in January that Juice Press’ 2nd UWS location was to be located on West 79th (between Amsterdam & Broadway) — it’s not clear if plans have since changed or if a third store may eventually open there.

Thanks to MUW reader David L. for the tip.
