Upper West Side Openings & Closings: Hello Tale Thai, R.I.P. H & H Bagels

talethai

In opening news, readers Wil and Sarit both report that Tale Thai, first mentioned by MyUpperWest in February, officially opened for business on Saturday. It’s located at 507 Columbus, between 84th & 85th. This is the space formerly occupied by Japanese restaurant Akai Lounge. Tale joins the recently opened Thai Nam on the growing list of UWS Thai options.

The big news of the day is the rather sudden closing of Upper West Side stalwart H & H Bagels, reported earlier today by the Wall Street Journal. Everyone seems to have an opinion about whether or not their bagels were as good as their reputation, but the spot was a neighborhood institution, as well as a piece of pop-culture lore.

There’s already a Chase, Starbucks, Duane Reade, and planned CVS within a block or two of the soon-to-be-available storefront on Broadway & 80th… hopefully something useful find its way into the space. In the meantime, here’s a picture of the now sign-less landmark sent in earlier today by Noah.
