Café des Artistes, the landmark Upper West Side restaurant at 1 West 67th, is back as Leopard at des Artistes. Diner’s Journal reports that the restaurant is reopening on Monday, 5/2, after being closed since August of 2009 for a “mega renovation” that included expert restoration of the nine Howard Chandler Christy murals, reconfiguring the floor plan, and converting the main dining room floors to stone. MyUpperWest first detailed the new ownership and name change last year.

Given the restaurant’s storied history, it’s just a matter of time before the city’s top reviewers flock in to give their opinions on its reincarnation. Thanks to RoomThreeSeven and Christopher B. for the link.

In closing news, tipster Noah checked in to say that Crystal Gourmet, the somewhat opulently named deli on Broadway between 108th & 109th, is no more. He reports that they auctioned off their equipment last week and the space is now vacant, adding “they were closed by the health department about a month ago and it seems like everything went downhill after that.”
