Upper West Side Openings, Closings & Relocations: Barney’s, Brandy Melville, Good Enough To Eat

Tuesday, May 14th, 2013

Posted back in March that the Barney’s Co-Op at 2151 Broadway (between 75th & 76th) is slated to undergo a renovation and re-branding.

As you can see in the photo above, that process has begun.

The store is losing the “Co-Op” designation and will become a regular ol’ Barney’s New York.

To reiterate the details (via Racked, via Womens’ Wear Daily):

The store will be rebranded as Barneys New York, where it will introduce women’s designer clothing, handbags, and jewelry. Men’s will be completely eliminated from the store, and the entire interior will be “renovated along the lines of the clean aesthetic of the renovated Barneys Madison Avenue flagship.”

For the now, the store remains partially open despite the renovation. The photo above only shows half of the space — the other side that’s out of frame was doing business as usual.

Just found a scribbled note on my desk from six weeks ago about bargain women’s clothing store Brandy Melville opening on the Upper West Side. [NOTE: My desk is a disaster]

The store is moving into the former Hot & Crusty space at 2720 Broadway (104th/105th) that has been vacant since last July.

DNAinfo has the details, noting this will be the brand’s second NYC location.

The store is described as “geared toward “18-to-25-year-old women and extremely affordable.”

DNAinfo notes that the space is owned by the city’s Economic Development Corporation, which makes me slightly dubious of the rumor that Hot & Crusty closed “because the landlord tripled the rent.”

I suppose it’s possible, but I now have my doubts.

Finally, if you missed the earlier post, neighborhood fixture Good Enough To Eat is relocating to a new location in the neighborhood.

The move ends nearly 18 months of uncertainty about the restaurant’s future after problems with the landlord were revealed in December 2011.

Nice to see they were able to find a landing spot in the neighborhood, as GETE has been on the UWS since 1981 and has plenty of loyal customers in the area.
