If last night’s news about a new Crumbs Bake Shop didn’t get your blood-sugar levels jumping for joy, perhaps this will: The rumored Upper West Side Momofuku Milk Bar opening mentioned last month is a rumor no more. In a matter of weeks you’ll be able to get all the Crack Pie (and other decadent delights) your heart desires without having to leave the neighborhood.
“Now you can take your Crack Pie one block east and eat it in Central Park, plus there’s a brand-new pork bun with an optional deep-fried soft-poached egg.”
Eater thinks the pork bun/egg combo is the same as the one that’s available at the Williamsburg outlet. Fortunately, now you don’t have to go to the land of unshowered hipsters to get it.
Gothamist tracked down a rep for Milk Bar who had this to say:
“We’re hoping to open our UWS location in mid September. The menu will be very similar to the Brooklyn storefront’s menu, selling our standard cookies, cakes, pies, soft serve and savory breads in addition to coffee/espresso and pork/veg buns with deep fried soft poached eggs. We’ll also have whole cakes and pies for sale.”
Milk Bar is moving into a vacant space that used to house an Allstate Insurance office. It’s also located next to City Council Member Gale Brewer’s office — no word yet on what impact this may have on the effectiveness of Upper West Side local government.
Thanks to MUW readers Christina, Corinne, Elise, Julie, and Rachel for writing in with the tip.
In closing news, long-time Lincoln Center fixture Josephina (1900 Broadway) has closed after dishing out pre-theater meals for more than 20 years. Eater reports the restaurant shuttered rather suddenly on Sunday, having reportedly lost its lease.
Early, unsubstantiated rumors about a possible replacement include The Smith, a “boisterous East Village American spot that is expanding to Midtown this fall.”

UPDATE 11/12/12: The Smith Lincoln Center is opening on Tuesday, 11/13/12
I got in touch with Tumi rep yesterday about the timing for their new store in the Apthorp that was mentioned last night. They’re currently scheduled to open at the end of October, and are “looking forward to being a part of the neighborhood.”
