Upper West Side Openings & Closings: SoulCycle, West Way Cafe, Agnelina Pizza Bar

Wednesday, May 25th, 2011

Tipster Mary e-mailed earlier in the week to say that SoulCycle, the popular indoor cycling studio, is opening up a branch in The Harrison on Amsterdam, in the empty corner space at 77th. She lives in the building and heard about it from her doorman. That could’ve been a MyUpperWest exclusive, but I’m just getting around to posting it now, and so of course the NY Post broke the story earlier today.

The SoulCycle chain has been purchased by Equinox, and it turns out that Equinox is owned by Related Companies, which also owns… The Harrison. The new 2,000 SF location will replace the SoulCycle currently located at 117 West 72nd. No word yet on dates. I believe there is already an Equinox in The Harrison, so the SoulCycle might be physically connected. All sorts of synergies for Related!

If you didn’t click through to the DNAinfo article in the previous post about CVS, you missed a note saying that New Pizza Town, one of the businesses on Broadway between 77th & 78th that has been forced to close due to a new condo development, is looking into taking over the former Ottomanelli Brothers space on Amsterdam & 79th. More news on this if/when it happens.

Noah and Tom wrote in separately to say that West Way Cafe (2800 Broadway, between 108th & 109th) is currently closed. Tom reports “the signage has been torn down and the place is gutted.” Frequent MUW contributor Noah is under the impression that they’re simply renovating and will reopen at some point.

Noah also adds that Angelina Pizza Bar (2728 Broadway, between 104th & 105th) is closed “for renovations.” However, he adds “Personally, I think they’re going under. Doesn’t look like renovations to me.”
