UPDATE 6/21: Pet Central is officially open

Frequent tipster Jim sent in the photo above, showing a new Pet Central store is moving into the space at 2643 Broadway (between 100th & 101st).

Pet Central has seven other NYC locations, including one on the Upper West Side at 235 W. 76th (near Broadway).

No word on when the new Broadway location is opening. I believe the space used to be home to card/stationary/party supply store.

Elsewhere…

Mentioned last week that Candle Cafe West (2427 Broadway, between 89th & 90th), an offshoot of the popular East Side organic and vegetarian/vegan eateries Candle Cafe and Candle 79, was slated to open this week and it appears they’ve kept their promise. MUW reader Meredith reports the restaurant is now open for business, although they’re still finalizing their liquor license.

If anyone dines over there, please feel free to send me your thoughts. They open at 11:30 am and service continues through dinner. FYI, they’re closed this Sunday (but will be open on future Sundays going forward).

UPDATE 9:12 pm: Well that didn’t take long. MUW Claudia just sent in this note:

I dined at Candle this evening — it’s great.

The staff is knowledgeable and very friendly (at least the bar staff is…  we sat at the bar).

The quality of the food is excellent, very consistent with the quality of their other properties. 

They are serving beer only tonight, and their wines/spirits arrive tomorrow (3/23)

Finally, a small update on The Smith restaurant slated for 1900 Broadway (at 63rd).

Initial reports indicated it would be open by summer, but Grub Street wrote yesterday that signs outside the space now say the restaurant “will launch this fall.”

UPDATE 11/12: The Smith Lincoln Center is opening on Tuesday, 11/13/12

As I’ve written previously, I expect The Smith to be hugely popular whenever it finally opens for business.
