Upper West Side Openings & Re-Openings: DSW (Designer Shoe Warehouse), WiNK, The Smith

Thursday, March 8th, 2012

Thought I had posted this last month but apparently it got lost in the shuffle: DSW is moving into the old Filene’s Basement space at 2222 Broadway (corner of 79th).

Got tips in February from MUW readers @dzoldan and @heyscottyb about DSW labeled blueprints being visible in the stores window (see photo below) and a press release announcing the new location just hit the wires this morning.

They’re targeting a “summer 2012″ opening, which is pretty non-specific. It will be DSW’s third Manhattan location, joining their stores on 14th and 34th Streets, the latter of which just opened for business today.

MUW reader Erica recent commented on Facebook about works that’s taking place in the currently vacant space, noting “They’re cleaning it up every day and tearing things a part.”

To be clear, DSW is only taking over the former Filene’s Basement space (about 32,000 square feet). The adjacent former Syms space is still looking for a tenant.

Elsewhere…

Readers Gaby/Andrew/Tyler and @tchunat report the WiNK that was closed for renovations earlier this week has reopened — nice to see the closing was in fact temporary. No word yet on what type of changes were made.

Finally, posted back in December that The Smith restaurant is taking over the former Sushi-A-Go-Go and Josephina spaces at 1900 Broadway (at 63rd).

As a minor update, MUW reader Lauren sent in a note pointing out The Smith has updated their website to show the new location is “coming soon.” Nothing earth-shattering here, but a good excuse to mention the opening again in case you missed the earlier post.

UPDATE 11/12: The Smith Lincoln Center is opening on Tuesday, 11/13/12

Last I heard, they’d be opening sometime this summer (like DSW, not very specific). In the interim, they’ll be participating in May’s New Taste Of The Upper West.
